VIKKI COURTNEY

By CCEA President Vikki Courtney

As educators, we have some very serious issues in the months ahead. With the settlement of our contract pending, changes to our healthcare, the implementation of NEPF, and new revenue to manage in our Zoom and Victory schools, CCEA has remained focused and steadfast.

As of now, it looks like we are heading to arbitration. Over the summer thousands of educators sent emails to the Trustees and many of you attended a school board meeting or addressed the Board of Trustees directly. It’s unbelievable how they just aren’t getting it. It’s unacceptable for teachers and licensed personnel to start the year with a pay cut. Educators are who make the difference. We’re confident we can make a solid case to the arbitrator and secure a favorable outcome.

We have come to the crossroads with our healthcare and are on the brink of rolling out a new, innovative healthcare delivery system. It was critical that we preserve the Teachers Health Trust and not turn our healthcare options over to a for-profit corporation. Open enrollment with all the specific details will start in October. The 2016 elections are just fourteen months away. We have our eye on the Board of Trustee seats and key legislative districts.

We appreciate your patience as we turn a corner. CCEA is here as a resource and to support you. If you have any questions or there is an issue we can help you with, please utilize our remarkable UniServ Directors. CCEA will continue our work to elevate the profession and take bold steps to lead the 5th largest school district in the country in a direction to be an effective education delivery system that recruits and retains teachers and provides quality education for our children.
