Together, we will make a difference.

Marie Neisess
President CCEA

From the President's Desk

As the Clark County Education Association (CCEA) President, I am extremely honored to represent more than 18,000 educators in the Clark County School District. CCEA has become the political leader for CCSD educators. We have consistently fought for a solid educational policy and the funding to support our students and educators’ success. Leading the charge on social justice issues, ensuring safe, well-funded public schools, and having a voice within our schools to support those needs.

For the past several Legislative Sessions, CCEA has been the only union in Clark County consistently fighting for more money for salaries and benefits. During the 2023 Legislative Session, CCEA was instrumental in obtaining a historic contract win. We worked closely with legislators and the governor to secure significant increases in education funding and improve education in Nevada. We advocated for ten legislative bills that were passed into law. This work could not have been accomplished without the voices of our dedicated educators who testified throughout the Legislative Session, helping us achieve historic wins. None of that would be possible without the active participation and the level of engagement of our CCEA members. As I reflect on the past school year, I am incredibly grateful for the dedication of our members who joined the fight for a new contract.

While we had significant wins in Carson City, the fight to improve education in Nevada goes forward. CCSD continues to struggle with recruiting while educators leave the district in record numbers and class sizes remain some of the largest in the nation. Many of our classrooms have instructors who are not fully credentialed. Most disturbing, those Clark County schools serving a majority of students of color and students living in poverty experience the highest educator turnover rates. These staff changes have an enormous negative impact on students’ education.

During my second term as the CCEA President, we must continue to focus on advocating for students and educators. The fight for our profession isn’t new, but we will work to change the landscape of education by working together. We must fight as a team to accomplish some very specific outcomes over the next few years. It matters that we have safe communities, welcoming and well-funded public schools, affordable healthcare, good wages, a secure retirement, and a voice within our schools supporting these needs.

I look forward to continuing to fight alongside you as we work to improve public education together.
